Marathon

Feeling super exhausted from the Standard Chartered Marathon. No, I'm not a runner (though I might consider taking part next year :p), but I was busy pouring water into cups for the runners. Easy? Not when a crowd of runners just keep coming towards the cups and carelessly grabbings cups, spilling water all over. The African runners were super pro. Finished the whole course within 3 hours. The News said that there were two separate marathons - local and international. No wonder we see no Singaporean shadow initially.

Tired tired tired. December has started and for the very first time in my life, I'm dreading December.

I doubt our class will remain as a class next semester. Almost everyone has different tutorial slots.

Procrastination has taken its toll on me.
Or should I say, procrastination has always been taking its toll on me.
As such, I had/have to rush 4 assignments (3 major assignments, 1 homework).

There's so much I wanna blog about, especially about my visit to the Toy Museum on Sunday, but since I'll have many photos to upload, with so little time, I will probably do it on Friday.

Haven't been getting enough sleep these few nights.. Can't wait for this killer week to be over. Ever since school started, I've never felt time pass so slow before. This week is simply moving too slow and strenuous.

Back to sonnet-ing!
Edward Spenser just made life difficult for me.
And soon will Shakespeare, Milton, Chaucer, and many other "great" men.

Nice song by the Eagles. I guess I'm in the soft-rock mood now. Eagles rock. Their songs are good. I was looking up on Hotel California, and some people rumoured that it has something to do with the Church of Satan, which led me to the Church of Satan website, which I didn't stay for long cuz it was quite scary, which led me to learn more about the CoS on Wikipedia, where I did learn something.

What bad English in the preceding paragraph..

Okay, I will be registering for electric guitar lessons tmr. Gonna learn scales and tabs! Woohoo! Then maybe someday I can form my own band and just rock away.

Okay, not a very productive day today, but I read Texts and Contexts! Only read up on New Criticism though. But there's a story behind why I read it, and the story came from the nightmare I had last night. NIGHTMARE I TELL YOU!

In my dream, I was caught in this room with a few people. The setting is like those movies where there's a psycho killer somewhere. So, as mentioned, I was in this room that seem somewhat like an office. There was a killing spree, and the people in the room were named after the methodologies I studied in HL104. I could only remember two though; 'New Criticism' and 'Deconstruction'. In short, all I remember was me running around the place with the murderer following closely. He stabbed me, and I soon found out he's 'New Criticism'. Funny, but scary nonetheless.

No joke, ok. HL104 literally gives nightmares. I think I totally screwed my abstract which I managed to finish on time.

I like the following video: Tale of Rock.
It's really cute!

Oh man I totally screwed myself up.

I was so looking forward to reading my texts during recess week, but look what happened today. I slept my Monday away. One day down, 4 more to go.

I need some damn discipline, damn it.

I'm left with the final part of HOD!
Managed to think of a couple of words to work on, but I still don't have the faintest inkling on how I'm gonna go about doing it. Don't even remind me about the abstract.

I hereby declare, from now until I'm happy, the following words will be considered taboo in Stacey's vocab.:
-Heart
-Darkness
-Civilisation
-Imperialism
-Africa
-Congo

As I read HOD, I still can't link LOST and the storyline of HOD. LOST most definitely cannot be referring to colonisation, nor creating a New World (trying to refrain from using one of my taboo words).. Could Jacob the invisible guy be likened to Kurtz?

Arghh.. 2010 and the truth will be out. I'll be old and my loyalty will be tested.

So, instead of reading HOD, I ended up playing MJ.

Didn't lose =D
But didn't win much either.. haha.

Lil' Jonie walked down a dark and lonely ally,
When down before her dropped a star so pretty.
But Lil' Jonie didn't give a damn..
She crushed the star and walked on by.

AHHH!! AHHH!! AHHHH! SONG SEUNG HUN!!! AHHH!

I've always liked Wednesdays cuz' it's mid-week..
But ever since tertiary education started (for this semester at least), I HATE WEDNESDAYS! (and Tuesday nights) .

Primarily because of the damned lecture and tutorial on Wednesday..

On the bright side, it's one of my earliest days =)

Oh! Beowulf will be out in cinemas in November! I'm quite looking forward to watching it.

Seems like I'm not gonna get my driving license in March afterall.. =(

But what's done is done and cannot be undone. Time to move on dude.

It's Friday again, and I just love Fridays. I'm just hoping for a rainy night to blend with my feelings tonight, and the bonus is a wonderful sleep later on.

We celebrated Joseph's (soozhouwei!johnwayne!beowulf!) birthday today. I'm sure he was pleasantly surprised cuz we only know each other for a month! He was smart enough to reject the mini-cake smash, but too bad for him, his whole shirt was filled with a mixture of ladies' perfume haha. It was so sweet of Constance to bring an extra shirt for him.

I guess as much as I dread going to school, I'm thankful for a bunch of fun-loving people that are just like soma (BNW's temporary anti-depressant)

I'm just feeling damn sian now cuz of what I went through in the afternoon. And of all times, a stupid surveyor had to approach me at one of my worst moments. I'm usually very happy to do surveys for people, but for this guy, I just had to snap at him. (Sorry, Mr. Surveyor)

Oh well. I'm feeling slightly better now, that is if I don't brood over the failure. I wanna watch a movie.. Maybe Evan Almighty?

My lit books in different perspectives =P
Okok, I was bored.
The last book freaks me out the most. Not only because of its size, but its content.
I guess my favourite book is Texts and Contexts by Lynn Steven. It's not a ficton book by the way! =p

I feel so stupid everytime I attend Lit lectures. Lit lectures are of a higher frequency than I am and I seriously wonder how I'm gonna survive this semester, let alone the next 3.5 years. I just can't think like some of my tutorial mates do. How come they can think of such intellectual stuff while I just sit and listen like a dumbass?

C'est un idiot? more like I'm the idiot.

On a sidenote, I watched the remaining part of The Searchers with some of my tutorial mates. Nice film which seriously has lots of connections with Heart of Darkness.

Wow. I just remembered, at this very moment, that I have to read Chaucer PLUS Beowulf..
I'm seriously lagging.. AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tmr's gonna be another "intellectual" lecture and tutorial. -.-

Taking a break from my homework..

Words can't explain how tough my lit module, Ways Of Reading: Texts and Contexts, is.
As interesting as it is, I just can't seem to fathom the crucial points! Grr..

As usual, I enjoyed my Magic Realism module today. Somehow I've been so influenced by the different kinds of critical theories, I tend to analyse Metamorphosis with the different critical theories haha.

Sigh..going back to the books now. At least I don't dread school as much as I did last week.

Please let it stop raining! I need to start jogging again, and I wanna play basketball!

I seriously am dreading school!! I'm just like Calvin in that picture!

Lit modules are SO DRY. Its level of difficulty isn't making things better either. My laziness isn't helping either. I NEED TO FIND SOME KINDA MOTIVATION!

At least my 5th elective, which incidently is another Lit module, isn't much of a bore. I enjoyed lecture today and was totally mesmerised by my Professor's gorgeous blue eyes.

Magical Realism - I'm glad I didn't drop you =)

Imagine, waking up one morning, finding yourself with 6 legs, and your body with 3 segments. Imagine yourself becoming an insect you absolutely abhore - cockroach.
Imagine the aftermath of this bazaar.
Your Dad hitting you back into the room, your employer doesn't give a damn, your mother just faints, and your sister trying to show concern, but only temporarily.
Imagine your Dad throwing apples at you (the cockroach form).
....

Yes I imagined all these and hell yeah was I scared and freaked out. Franz Kafka, the guy who wrote Metamorphosis, indeed is a smart writer, direct to his point.

Then there was the example of Bart Simpson becoming a fly, and we were discussing how Homer wasn't at all affected by the transformation.
The boundaries between reality and magic has been blurred.

Magic Realism rocks.
School sucks.

Hmm..seems like English really isn't my thing? 69%.. That's quite pathetic.

Books to the ceiling, books to the sky,
My pile of books are a mile high
How I love them!
How I need them!
I'll have a long beard by the time I read them!

Yes, I think the number of books I'll be reading will pile up to a mile at the end of my undergraduate studies. I hope I'll grow to love them, and hell yes, I absolutely need them. Just this semester alone, I've to read more than 5 books. ( I think I've rambled enough) It's not about reading that is the problem, but the opening of the book to read that is. I have another problem too.. I can't seem to think critically when I'm reading, which I think I'm supposed to. Urgh. After a week of tutorials, I really wonder why I'm studying Literature. Maybe the light at the end of the tunnel hasn't appeared. But what my greatest worry/fear is that the light at the end of the tunnel may just be an oncoming train that will bang me into disaster.

Right now, I'm torn between 2 port-folios for CAC Camp 2008. Should I set my mind for the post as main comm's CGL, or sub comm's GL? I have 6 more days to think about it.
