This film is a very good film,
BUT
to do an essay for it can be quite tiring!

(took this from Facebook)

IF YOU WERE BORN IN THE 80's IN SINGAPORE
You would remember...

You grew up watching He-man, MASK, Transformers, Silver Hawk and Mickey Mouse, Ninja turtles, Carebears, Robocop, My Little Pony and Smurfs.

You grew up brushing your teeth with a mug in Primary school during recess time. You would squat by a drain with all your classmates beside you, and brush your teeth with a coloured mug.

You hated or loved the school nurse (she was either pretty or mean).

You know what SBC stands for.

You paid 40 cents for cartons of Chocolate or Strawberry milk every week in class.

Everyone's wallet used to be the velcro type

It was cool to have pagers in primary school

SBS buses used to be non-airconditioned. The bus seats are made of wood and the cushionwere red. The big red bell gave a loud BEEP! when pressed.

There were still bus tickets and bus conductors would come up to check them.

Envelopes were given to us to donate to Sharity Elephant every Children's Day.

You've probably read Young Generation magazine. You know who's Vinny the little vampire and Acai the constable.

You know what PETS are and the hidden animals in all the text pages. You hated penmanship.

Writing lines and caning hands were common, esp if you failed chinese spelling (caning was actually allowed. no shit).

You were there when they first introduced the MRT here. You went for the first ride with your parents and you would kneel on the seat to see the scenery.

Movie tickets used to cost only $3.50.

Gals were fascinated by Strawberry Short Cake and Barbie Dolls.

You learn to laugh like The Count in Sesame Street.

You bought tidbits called beebee (20 cents per pack, 10 cents in MGS), and mamee (30 cents), that had a different sticker in it every time.

You carried a lunch box to school but either threw away the food or brought it back home again.

You watched TV2 (also known as Channel 10) cartoons because Channel 5 never had enough cartoons for you.

Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Three Investigators, Famous Five and Secret Seven were probably the thickest
story books you thought you would ever read.

KFC used to be a high class restaurant that served food in plates and had metal forks and knives. (I dont remember this, anyone?)

The most vulgar thing you said was asshole and idiot and THE MOST EXTREME WAS 'chicken pie'...you just couldn't bring yourself to say the hokkien translation.

Catching and pepsi-cola was the IN thing, and twist was the
magic word.

Your English workbooks were made of some damn poor quality paper that was smooth and yellow.

You came to school 15 mins before the bell every morning just so you could copy someone's homework.

CDIS was your best friend.

The only computer lessons in school involved funny pixellized characters in 16 colours walking about trying to teach you math.

Waterbottles were slung around your neck and a must everywhere you went.

Boys loved to play soccer with small stones or tennis balls in the basketball court.

Girls played five stones and boys played with marbles.

Science was fun with the Balsam and the Angsana being the most important plants of our lives, guppies and swordtail being the most important fishes.

Who can forget Ahmad, Bala, Sumei and John, immortalized in our minds from school textbooks.

We conducted experiments of our own to get badges for being a Young Zoologist/Botanist etc.

Every Children's day and National day you either got pins or pens with 'Happy Children's Day 1993' or useless plastic files with 'Happy National Day 1994'.

You wore BM2000, BATA, or Pallas shoes.

Your form teacher taught you Maths, Science and English.

You went to school in slippers and a raincoat when it rained, and you find a dry spot in the school
to sit down, dry your feet, and wear your dry and warm socks and shoes.

There would be spelling tests and mental sums to do almost everyday (you hated them).

Your friends considered you lucky and rich if your parents gave you $2 or more for pocket mone everyday.

You saw Wee Kim Wee's/Ong Teng Chong's face in the school hall.

Boys liked catching fighting spiders, earthworms or tadpoles.

Collecting and battling erasers was a pastime for boys.

Class monitors and prefects loved to say, "You talk somemore, I write your name ah!"

You got booked for muddy shoes in class.

There were at least 40 people in one class.

You brought every single book to school, even though there was a timetable.

There was a pro-yo/bumblebee, digimon craze at some point in time
Our Very Own Creation:
JELLYBERRY CHEESECAKE!

Mother and I made this strawberry cheesecake. It's our first attempt, so the cutting doesn't look as appealing, but we're gonna make it again during the weekends, and I'll put up a nicer picture. Can't see the bottom layer? Will put up the details of the cheesecake in our next attempt.

Not that I'm trying to boast, but the cheesecake tasted YUMMYLICIOUS!

Interested in trying it for yourself? Contact me for good rates! :)

I was going home from tuition last night, and along the way, I saw children holding lanterns and playing with candles. Brought me down Memory Lane where I used to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival (commonly known as Lantern Festival when I was younger) in Clementi, Blk 604. I remember playing candles and lanterns with my sister, as well as our closest neighbours then. There was once, we created a HUGE fire at the basketball court. That was one of the most memorable MAF ever. Ever since we moved to 716, MAF wasn't as fun.

In CCK? Don't even wanna celebrate MAF. I guess the fun isn't there anymore, and probably cuz I'm aging heh.

Anyway, I finally signed up for my electric guitar lessons! Can't wait can't wait!
Of course, I'm running outta ka-ching and I really need to look for another tuition assignment. Waiting for those agencies to call me!

Nice song by the Eagles. I guess I'm in the soft-rock mood now. Eagles rock. Their songs are good. I was looking up on Hotel California, and some people rumoured that it has something to do with the Church of Satan, which led me to the Church of Satan website, which I didn't stay for long cuz it was quite scary, which led me to learn more about the CoS on Wikipedia, where I did learn something.

What bad English in the preceding paragraph..

Okay, I will be registering for electric guitar lessons tmr. Gonna learn scales and tabs! Woohoo! Then maybe someday I can form my own band and just rock away.

Okay, not a very productive day today, but I read Texts and Contexts! Only read up on New Criticism though. But there's a story behind why I read it, and the story came from the nightmare I had last night. NIGHTMARE I TELL YOU!

In my dream, I was caught in this room with a few people. The setting is like those movies where there's a psycho killer somewhere. So, as mentioned, I was in this room that seem somewhat like an office. There was a killing spree, and the people in the room were named after the methodologies I studied in HL104. I could only remember two though; 'New Criticism' and 'Deconstruction'. In short, all I remember was me running around the place with the murderer following closely. He stabbed me, and I soon found out he's 'New Criticism'. Funny, but scary nonetheless.

No joke, ok. HL104 literally gives nightmares. I think I totally screwed my abstract which I managed to finish on time.

I like the following video: Tale of Rock.
It's really cute!

Oh man I totally screwed myself up.

I was so looking forward to reading my texts during recess week, but look what happened today. I slept my Monday away. One day down, 4 more to go.

I need some damn discipline, damn it.

I had a taste of what life as a garang guni man is like today. IT'S DAMN TIRING AND I FELT SO SHAGGED JUST AFTER THE FIRST HALF OF COLLECTION.

Had to collect newspapers to raise funds for CAC FOC. On the brighter side, we managed to raise quite a lot of money, plus it was a good time to "exercise" and burn off some calories and train my arms =p

Besides having a feel of what garung guni-ng it like, I saw the life and death of a pigeon. It was a quite a sight. As I was keeping watch over the collected stuff, I saw on the grass a struggling pigeon. Seriously, I don't know how it dropped to the grass, coz just a few minutes before that, there was no pigeon there. So anyway, I saw its legs struggling while it tried to move its feathers. I couldn't see its head by the way. My friend came by and was so shocked by the pigeon coz she saw the pigeon actually foaming! (Great eyesight I must say, considering the size of the mouth of the pigeon). Both of us watched the helpless bird struggle for approximately 5 minutes before its final seconds. Its tail just gradually stopped shivering. RIP, pigeon.

But...

About a few moments later, a crow came and ate the dead pigeon and started ripping it apart. So much for RIP.

Dead pigeon with other oblivious pigeons happily pecking on dropped rice grains.

Dead Pigeon

Friend of dead pigeon, I suppose? Since it's the only pigeon that remained when the food were gone.

Seems like the friend is keeping watch over Dead Pigeon.

The group of wonderful and efficient Garung Guni-s!

Gonna be a garung-guni girl for tomorrow's canvassing.

Not exactly very excited about it, considering the fact that they shifted the meeting time behind by half an hour. Please..30 minutes of sleep can help a lot. Damn.

I'm considering taking up basic electric guitar lessons. All these while, my knowledge on the guitar is limited to chords and chords alone. I wanna learn scales, I wanna learn tabs. That way, my precious and dearest electric guitar won't become a white elephant in the house.

There's this promotion going on.. not too sure about it. Something like, if you register with them during this period, you get a free acoustic guitar if you follow some requirements? Oh whatever, it's somewhere along those lines. Come to think of it, what would I do with an extra acoustic guitar? I already have one. Maybe I can sell the new one =D It'd be great if they gave a free electric.. but then again, what can I do with it since I already have one? I think 3 guitars in the house is already taking up quite an unreasonable amount of space.. imagine a fourth one coming in!

It's only 9pm and I'm feeling quite sleepy already, but I don't feel like sleeping. I don't like sleeping before 12am, somehow.

Lastly, on a random note, I'm glad I didn't "fall".

Friday, September 21, 2007

Right now I have the urge to blog, but I don't know what to write about. So this will be a rather random post with different fragments of ramblings coming together.

I completed my rubbishy abstract for Hoca. I think it sucks, but at least I got it done. I'm so screwed for HL104.. maybe I should just SU it.

Jeremy is such a deconstructionist.

I don't like mooncakes.

The stupid fugly rabbit mascot in NTU which was promoting MAF celebration really freaks me out.

I wanna be hardworking during recess week.

I think I'm falling sick.

I'm craving for Japanese food and IKEA meatballs (i think i owe someone a treat)

I nearly typed 'Japanese meatballs and IKEA sashimi' haha

New Historicism?

Canvassing stuff for CAC FOC

I love Matthew Fox.

I'm tired and sleepy.

Feel like playing basketball and softball, and learn soccer or touch rugby.

Feel like taking up basic electric guitar lessons but I don't have the time.

I love my tutorial mates.

I love Fridays.

I don't know what I'm gonna do later. Maybe watch 'Amelie'.

Nearly borrowed 'Schindler's List' but would probably be too lazy to watch it.

Saw Roy in school after sooo long. NBS is really big.

Didn't know the guy beside Roy was some superstar singer until my friends pointed it out to me. I don't think he's that cute.

I like the friends I made in NTU. Haven't gotten to know them in a deeper level, but you know they care.

Wanna play the guitar tomorrow.

I wanna "Le petisme". Erm.. i don't study French, so I absolutely have no idea whether my sentence structure is correct.

I suddenly feel a sense of satisfaction.

It feels as though half the load of a burden has been lifted off my shoulders. Brian Hoca finally accepted my word! I came up with 3 words, and he suggested 'tobacco', and even commented it was a good word. YAY! And i'm gonna use the New Historicism/Traditional Historicism methodology. Oh man..so cool.. finally something to do with History =D

I sure am glad. The week is going really quickly, and recess week is coming!! Somehow I feel more motivated to work hard now.

Gave a surprise to Ishita today! Boy was she shocked! Glad to have seen her after sooooo long. Seems like she visits NTU more often than her own school, NUS. Haha. She should have come here cuz all her friends are here. Was so fun reminiscing about the craziest things we did in Chinese class back in secondary school.

(random comment..)
I love my tutorial class. I love the people.

I'm left with the final part of HOD!
Managed to think of a couple of words to work on, but I still don't have the faintest inkling on how I'm gonna go about doing it. Don't even remind me about the abstract.

I hereby declare, from now until I'm happy, the following words will be considered taboo in Stacey's vocab.:
-Heart
-Darkness
-Civilisation
-Imperialism
-Africa
-Congo

As I read HOD, I still can't link LOST and the storyline of HOD. LOST most definitely cannot be referring to colonisation, nor creating a New World (trying to refrain from using one of my taboo words).. Could Jacob the invisible guy be likened to Kurtz?

Arghh.. 2010 and the truth will be out. I'll be old and my loyalty will be tested.

My favourite drama series didn't get much nominations for the 59th Emmy's.

They were only nominated for the following:
1. Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series - for the episode "A Tale of Two Cities"
2. Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series
3. Outstanding Single-camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series
4. Outstanding Supporting Actor ( Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson got nominated, but seriously none of them will get the title cuz they could have carried their roles out better)
5. Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series - for their season 3 finale (I HOPE THEY GET THIS AWARD!)

I have this feeling that Heroes will get a couple of awards. I haven't exactly watched the series, but many people like it.

I can finally watch the full-length Emmy's tomorrow night since I don't have tutorial on Tuesday =D All these years, I couldn't catch the Emmy's live because I had to go to school.. but it was too late to watch the whole event at night cuz it will end too late and there'd be school the next day.

Oh.. Pris*n Bre*k didn't get any nominations? HAH! Great.. cuz only their first season was good. They should just stop the whole production. I heard the end of Season 2 was madness. Glad I didn't waste my time on it.

Another new week..and I've yet to complete HOD.

So, instead of reading HOD, I ended up playing MJ.

Seems like I'm not gonna get my driving license in March afterall.. =(

But what's done is done and cannot be undone. Time to move on dude.

It's Friday again, and I just love Fridays. I'm just hoping for a rainy night to blend with my feelings tonight, and the bonus is a wonderful sleep later on.

We celebrated Joseph's (soozhouwei!johnwayne!beowulf!) birthday today. I'm sure he was pleasantly surprised cuz we only know each other for a month! He was smart enough to reject the mini-cake smash, but too bad for him, his whole shirt was filled with a mixture of ladies' perfume haha. It was so sweet of Constance to bring an extra shirt for him.

I guess as much as I dread going to school, I'm thankful for a bunch of fun-loving people that are just like soma (BNW's temporary anti-depressant)

I'm just feeling damn sian now cuz of what I went through in the afternoon. And of all times, a stupid surveyor had to approach me at one of my worst moments. I'm usually very happy to do surveys for people, but for this guy, I just had to snap at him. (Sorry, Mr. Surveyor)

Oh well. I'm feeling slightly better now, that is if I don't brood over the failure. I wanna watch a movie.. Maybe Evan Almighty?

Time passes really fast eh? It's Friday again! YAY!

I'm now taking a break from my Final Theory Test revision.. falling asleep already man.. but I MUST PASS TMR'S TEST SO I CAN BLOODY GET MY LICENSE IN MARCH!

Anyway, the friggin' train, of all times, had to cock up on such a rushing day for me. Was supposed to rush home before rushing off again for tuition, but because the MRT train got stucked at JE, I had to go straight to the tuition kids' house. I have to compliment the efficiency of the SMRT crew though. (Except for the f*cking announcer who couldn't announce properly, which caused a greater confusion amongst the people who were heading to Bukit Batok and beyond) They were quick in solving the problem and boy, the whole platform was getting chaotic. I nearly died from the crowd and the heat.

Nothing much to ramble about..
Is it time to go back to my revision?

Remember Me This Way
Jordan Hill
http://www.lyricsbox.com/jordan-hill-lyrics-remember-me-this-way-9rtxvck.html

Every now and then we find a special friend
Who never lets us down
Who understands it all
Reaches out each time you fall
You're the best friend that I've found
I know you can't stay
A part of you will never ever go away
Your heart will stay

I'll make a wish for you
And hope it will come true
If life will just be kind
To such a gentle mind
And If you lose your way
Think back on yesterday
Remember me this way
Remember me this way

I don't need eyes to see
The love you bring to me
No matter where I go
And I know that you'll be there
For ever more a part of me you're everywhere
I'll always care

I'll make a wish for you
And hope it will come true
If life will just be kind
To such a gentle mind
And if you lose your way
Think back on yesterday
Remember me this way
Remember me this way

And I'll be right behind your shoulder watching you
I'll be standing by your side in all you do
And I won't ever leave as long as you believe
You just believe...
When darkness fills the heart
And you're tempted to part.

God help me.

Damn shagged!

First meeting went quite smoothly.. I'm new to PnP so I can't wait to learn new stuff from my fellow committee members and the previous PnP officer. Thank God Daddy and Mommy came and fetched me cuz I was really shagged.

I can't remember if I mentioned this, but I'm so happy I know where I'm heading with my research question for my first assignment! Yay!

When I think about tomorrow...
The feeling of dread overwhelms me yet again.
Sigh.. Weekends please come quickly!!!!! =(

Stand By Me
Ben E. King

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me,
Oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me,
Oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me,
Stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me,
Oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

...

As much as I love rock music, I do love to take a "break" from rock and indulge in some meaningful oldies or slow sentimental music.
stand by me...stand by me...

My Love Will Get You Home
Christine Glass

If you wander off too far, my love will get you home.
If you follow the wrong star, my love will get you home.
If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone,
Get back on your feet and think of me,

My love will get you home.
Boy, my love will get you home.

If the bright lights blinds your eyes, my love will get you home.
If your troubles break your stride, my love will get you home.
If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone,
Get back on your feet and think of me,

My love will get you home.
Boy, my love will get you home.

If you ever feel ashamed, my love will get you home.
When there's only you to blame, my love will get you home.
If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone,
Get back on your feet and think of me,

My love will get you home.
Boy, my love will get you home.

If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone,
Get back on your feet and think of me,

I don't like Mondays.. though it's the slackest day of the week (exluding giving tuition).. But i really don't like to go to school! I guess it's just the traveling part.

Well, though I haven't completed (read:barely began) Heart of Darkness, I'm so thankful that I roughly know where I'm heading to for my essay question! Weehee!! And amazingly in the midst of my research, it was mentioned that the mysteries of LOST may have something to do with Heart of Darkness due to the frequent references made to the book! Oh man! I finally found a motivation to read Heart of Darkness!! =D

...

Was just thinking bout this.. how often do you find a friend - that you meet randomly, whom you can relate to so well, and understand you so well and vice versa? So similar in personality, interests, maybe mindsets... basically you can just click with that friend really well. I think these kinda friends are hard to come by.. for me at least.

Anyway I lost in MJ =( When you don't have the 'kick' to play you just won't win hah.
